Brake Pads

The key to achieving efficient braking is matching your driving style and vehicle type with the right brake pad formulation. Many factors will determine the correct pad type for your vehicle, including whether you drive country or freeway, if you drive off road or through steep terrain, or if you are towing heavy loads or do a lot of stop start driving. The main cause of premature wear is high temperatures. Brake pads can last up to 70,000 kms. If your brake pads are wearing out prematurely, you may need heavier duty, temperature resistant brake pads. Some brakes noise is normal, but excessive squeal, grinding or banging means that yours brakes need attention. If your vehicle shakes, vibrates or pulsates when the brakes are applied, then the disc brake rotors may need resurfacing. More serious problems such as loose component or a faulty steering mechanism can also cause vibration. We recommend that rotors are machined if they exhibit disc thickness variation, severe scoring, warping or heat damage.

Service Intervals

Some car manufacturers recommend service intervals from 10,000 kms even up to 20,000 kms, although this is often reduced under certain conditions. We recommend services at least every 10,000 kms for older vehicles. Apart from the benefits of changing the oil, regular servicing allows us to identify safety concerns and replace any worn items before they cause major damage.

Oil Changes

Reasons for changing Engine Oil - ** By-Products of combustion, particularly when the engine is cold, cause sludge build up in the oil, which can block oil galleries and starve moving parts of lubrication. ** Dilution from fuel will make the oil thinner and reduce its lubricating properties. ** Metal deposits from moving components, builds up in the oil and accelerates wear. Regular servicing - using top quality lubricant - reduces the effect of these problems, and greatly increases the life of your engine. It will also improve fuel economy, increase performance, and keep your vehicle in a safe and reliable condition.

Steering & CV Boots

WHY REPLACE THEM? - If your car's Steering Rack or Constant Velocity (CV) boots are perished or torn, replacing them early can save the added expense of replacing the components they protect. WHAT ARE THESE BOOTS? - They are rubber covers which seal each end of the car's steering rack or CV joint, while still allowing movement of the steering and driveshafts. They seal in the lubricant and seal out dirt and water. If they tear, dirt and water from the road will enter the components and wear them rapidly. WHY DO THEY TEAR? - They are made of rubber and exposed to the elements under your car and are subject to a lot of movement. As they get older the rubber perishes and eventually will tear. Replacing the boots before they wear out is a good example of how money spent on car maintenance can save a lot of money in repairs. WHEN SHOULD THEY BE REPLACED? - If your car is serviced regularly, Troy will spot when they are nearing the end of their useful life and report this to you.
